Search Engine Optimization is the process of making your website visible to search engines such as Google. When you type a word or a phrase in to Google, you get a list of websites which might be of interest to you.
If you own a website, it is important that your site comes up as an option in the first few pages, as people rarely scroll down more than 2 or 3 pages. If the word you are hoping to attract people to your site with, is fairly generic, you are going to find this difficult. For example, if you are a website designer and you hope people will type in ‘website design’ and find you, you will probably be out of luck. There are big companies out there, who have endless resources available to them to achieve this.
Methods for improving SEO include paying for a slot at the top. These are the highlighted links at the top of the Google page. Paying for links to your site from other sites, persuading other site owners to link to your site and improving your contenet to include your keywords.
Improving the SEO of your site and it is a long process, with a lot of tweaking involved. As a start, it is essential to include the keywords you hope people will find you for, in your content. Without them it is impossible.
